Welcome to the IU Master of Public Health Program

The MPH Program

This is the time.  This is the place.  This is the program.

Welcome!  Congratulations on your decision to explore a graduate degree in public health.

This is an opportune time to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.  Obtaining an MPH degree from Indiana University School of Medicine will provide the solid foundation necessary to develop solutions to the complex health challenges of today and confront the emerging health problems of tomorrow. You are exploring the MPH Program at a time when the demand for public health professionals is increasing. Epidemiologists, health educators and health policy analysts are needed to prevent chronic diseases, assure access to healthcare, promote healthy behaviors, respond to natural and manmade disasters, manage the spread of communicable diseases, eliminate environmental contaminants, prioritize the allocation of health resources, prevent injury, and develop sound policies that affect the health of populations.

This is an ideal place to pursue an MPH degree.  Our program is housed in the country’s second largest medical school and is part of one of the most outstanding urban research universities in the U.S.  We are located in the heart of the state capital, just blocks from the Indiana Government Center, the Indiana State Department of Health, major health providers, and other excellent sites for practical public health experiences. Our students learn from public health experts in the classroom and in the field.  We have recently increased the number of courses available to students and doubled the size of our faculty to meet the needs of our rapidly growing educational programs.

This is the right program for you if you seek an outstanding education that prepares you for a bright future in public health.  Our MPH Program is the largest in Indiana and is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Three concentrations are available:

  • Epidemiology
  • Health Policy and Management
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

The course schedule is flexible; you can enroll on a part-time or full-time basis with classes offered during the day and in the evening.  Several classes are even offered online.  We are proud of our diverse student body representing a wide range of ethnic, geographic and professional backgrounds.  The MPH degree can be combined with other IUPUI degrees, including law (JD-MPH), medicine (MD-MPH), dentistry (DDS-MPH), health administration (MHA-MPH) and social work (MSW-MPH).

I encourage you to explore the information on our website to learn more about the MPH Program.  Feel free to contact me if you have questions about the program.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.
